Oh Snap! Part 2

Hi all,

If you’re in the southern part of this amazing country I hope you’ve got your winter woollies on! It’s freezing! I think we’re feeling it more than usual as it’s been so warm until now. The good thing about the cold weather though is that it allows me to scrap guilt-free!

You might remember that I made a layout using the new Oh Snap! range from Echo Park a couple of weeks ago for Scrap Everything! At the time I said I would get at least 2 more layouts out of the pack. By adding two pieces of cardstock I have now made a double layout and still have a full sheet, half the stickers and some part sheets left. At $9 this is definitely a great value pack.

Here’s what I made:

I think a lot of you might relate to this situation. There’s a group of happy people, they’re all keen for a photo but none of the photos are perfect. Someone’s eyes are shut, someone turns away, the wind blows someone’s hair in their face and, in this case, they have a little chat in the middle of it!

Here’s the first page:

I wrote the problems that occurred with each photo underneath it, so it told the story of how I had to keep taking another photo and another….. Thanks goodness for the digital age!

The background is quite simple. I just cut a sheet of the Oh Snap! paper in half, put a half on each of the two pages and added a bit of a contrasting colour trim at the top and bottom. I then just took some scraps, cut them into the right size and shape, and created a banner along the bottom of the block. A lot of the banner is hidden by the photos but it creates an extra bit of interest and isn’t difficult to do.

That long title is self explanatory really!

Here’s a closie of the second page:

I love that Oh Snap! shape. What do you call that shape? An explosion? I also snuck a date tab onto my banner so it forms a part of it.

Those film strips are so useful – and there’s two sheets of them in the pack! I like the way that you could use just about any photos with these. I still have a full sheet left so expect to see these pop up again in my layouts.

And the last close-up:

If you get this Oh Snap! pack I hope you get the mileage out if it that I have. I’ll let you know when I make another layout with it.

Bye for now.

DT Belinda: Making Your Own Background

Hello follow crafters, hope you have been busy creating.

I was very lucky in my latest DT pack to receive a Kaisercraft stencil and Tim Holtz Distress Ink pad. I have started to make my own backgrounds so this suited me down to a T.

Now the stencil I got was:

As I did not want to use the whole stencil I grabbed my dabber, inked it up using the Tim Holtz Distress ink, Picked Raspberry and just coloured in the flower bits. After I laid my photo down I realise it needed another colour so I went back and added green. This is what it look like at the end:

I was also given some beautiful Manor Creation Flowers but the white just did not go with the layout. So I sprayed it with a little glimmer mist. I added some Kaisercraft bling to complete the flower.

And finally the whole layout. I was given the new Echo Park range ‘OH SNAP’ and it is awesome, so much paper and stickers in the pack at a fab price. The background is made on the back of one sheet (a plainer one) and then I cut another sheet and used it under my photos.  I also added 2 stickers, one pointing to what the layout is about and one add a date, something I need to do more often. Here is the layout in full:

Sorry about the look of the 2nd photo, no matter how any times I photo the layout, that 2nd photo always looked like that.

I hope this inspires you to play and make your own backgrounds! You can find the Oh Snap paper HERE, the Manorhouse Creations  HERE and the Distress Inks HERE

Thanks for looking

Where Is The Paper?

Hi Scrappers,

How are you today? If you are in Melbourne I hope you are enjoying this glorious Autumn weather!

As mentioned on Monday, I went to Better Homes and Gardens Live on the weekend at the show grounds. Also at the show grounds this weekend was Paperific which I  attended after the Better Homes and Gardens show. I think from memory there were about 25 stall holders with perhaps 5 or so of those traders who were not actually selling anything at the show. Out of those 20 traders who were actually selling products there, would you believe that only 2 had scrapbooking paper? And of those 2 traders, one of them was selling their own brand of paper only and the other was selling mostly cardstock with a bargain bin of very old paper.  Almost every stand was selling stamps, dies and card making supplies.

When I attended the Scrapbook Expo in March I found that there was very little paper for sale there too.  My question is: Where is the paper? Or better yet, where are the scrapbookers?

In Melbourne over the last 12 months, I have seen or heard of many scrapbooking shops closing their doors and this has me wondering –  Has scrapbooking lost its sparkle? Has scrapbooking been shoved aside in favour of card making? For me personally scrapbooking will never lose its sparkle! I love seeing my children, family and friends reliving memories through my scrapbooking albums. I love the creative process of scrapbooking and do not feel overwhelmed by the amount there is to do! Having said that I do enjoy card making and am probably more known for my cards than for my layouts!

What do you think about this? Where do you buy your paper from? How often do you buy paper online? I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

And speaking of paper, have you checked out the brilliant range that we have in store? I am totalling loving the Oh Snap range by Echo Park. I have used it on a lot of projects and am surprised how far one pack went! Here is how I used it on some Project Life pages…

Week 14

All I added was some twine and some black card – everything else is from the pack. Here are some more pages…

Week 14 2

Weeks 10 to 13

Weeks 10 to 13 2

I used the rest of the pack on a mini album which I will share with you next week! you can find this fabulous paper pack in store HERE and at only $9 for the pack it is great value too!

Happy scrapping!

My Monday Motivation

Hi Scrappers,

How are you today? Are you making plans to get scrappy this week? I am!

It is no secret to anyone that knows me or follows this blog that I love love Amy Tan and her awesome line of scrapbooking products! Last year in August the lovely Amy came to Australia and I got to meet her and do a make and take with her at my local Spotlight – it was super exciting! Well yesterday I went along to Better Homes and Gardens Live and got to meet her again! I came armed with the camera and a Project Life card and pen so I could once again get something signed and few pictures too. Imagine my surprise when Amy recognised my face!!! I had some pictures taken with her and she wrote me a lovely note for my Project Life album - not only that but Amy said she loved my pen which of course I quickly told her she could have!

Here is a picture of my Project Life card that I will decorate with Amy Tangerine papers and so on…

So this morning my motivation to scrap is to get all of these fantastic memories into my Project Life album! I hope you all have a fantastic week and find some inspiration in your everyday life too :-)

Happy scrapping!

DT: Belinda Scott – Making The Most of Collectables

Hello, Belinda here!

This week I have a layout that has lots of die cuts from the collectables range from an older Kaisercraft range Secret Admirer. I often find the collectables hard to use up. I usually use a few but are then left with most of the packet just sitting there, staring at me. So this time I got my thinking cap on and decided to try using some like you would use paper. This is the result

life2

I used 8 of the die cuts under my photo. And because the photo is black and white and had a border of black cardstock, the bright colours enhance the photo more. I love this look and will be doing it more.

Now for a few close-ups:

Lifec1

The collectables doilies come in large, medium and small size. I used medium

Lifec2

A Manorhouse flower. This pack came with 3 stunning flowers.

Lifec3

The range came with a sticker sheet full of sayings. I cut one up into smaller lengths and used it. There were so many to choose from.

Lifec4

Also used for the first time October Afternoons Mist. Love it and will be using them more (I have a few bottles already )

I hope from this that you look at your collectables with different eyes. I also just love this range from Kaisercraft, so girly and with 3 girls I need girly :)

Thanks for looking

Belinda :)
